Welcome to Volunteers of America of Kentucky serving Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia and Southern Indiana

Our Mission

Volunteers of America of Kentucky creates positive change in the lives of individuals and communities through a ministry of service.

Our dedicated staff of 800 and our 500 volunteers served 14,000 people last year in Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia and Southern Indiana

  • We provide shelter, housing and services for low-income and homeless families, for seniors, and for people with disabilities.
  • We help displaced veterans and those with addictions get back on their feet.
  • We help pregnant and parenting teens and individuals with HIV/AIDS
  • We operate programs that prevent homelessness, and we offer special programs that keep families together.

REAL PEOPLE       REAL CHALLENGES       REAL SOLUTIONS

Homeless families are showing up at our shelters more frequently than ever.  We have provided shelter and programs for homeless families for 25 years. But we cannot accommodate all the families that need help.

Phonecia was a 28-year-old Army veteran and a single mother of an 8-year-old boy and seven-month-old girl. She lost her roommate and was unable to afford the apartment on her own. With utilities shut-off, she stayed in the apartment until the Volunteers of America Emergency Shelter said, “We have room for you.”

Charlie was eight years old when he came to our Family Emergency Shelter with his mother and two older brothers. His mother’s addiction had led to their transient lifestyle. One day Charlie’s mother left the shelter and didn’t return, abandoning her children. The personal concern of a Volunteers of America caseworker changed Charlie’s life.
